Ten questions to ask before you pay a deposit
A short checklist to run through at every viewing so you do not lose money on a place that does not work out.
Take five minutes at the viewing and ask these before any money changes hands.
- Is the deposit refundable, and under what conditions?
- Are DEWA, chiller and internet included?
- How many people currently sleep in the room?
- What are the shift patterns of the other occupants?
- Is there a written agreement?
- Who do I contact for maintenance?
- Is cooking allowed in the flat?
- What is the notice period if I move out?
- Are guests allowed?
- Does the advertisement carry a permit number?
If a landlord will not answer these plainly, that is your answer.
